About The Position

The Slitter Operator is responsible for operating the slitter machine while adhering to customer quality specifications. This role involves ensuring the accuracy of dimensions, sizes of rolls, quantity, and print quality. The operator will also perform rework and rewinding of rolls with identified defects, and oversee the activities of the Slitter Assistant, providing training and guidance as necessary.

Requirements

  • Proficient mathematical and measurement skills.
  • Knowledge of metric conversions.
  • 1-2 years slitter assistant experience preferred.
  • Ability to run multiple jobs simultaneously.
  • Ability to handle project-type work with little supervision.
  • Experience working with production computer software.
  • Broad knowledge of product and customer specifications.
  • Mechanical knowledge of and ability to adjust gauges, scales, and hand tools.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Operate the slitter while following customer quality specifications.
  • Perform rework/rewinding of rolls with identified defects from primary operations.
  • Monitor and direct the activities of the Slitter Assistant.
  • Train Slitter Assistant to a level of proficiency that allows them to fill in as an operator as needed.
  • Work with supervision, planning, and Quality to complete rework efficiently.
  • Ensure proper and accurate setup of the machine, including reviewing job folders and data.
  • Use hoist to hang rolls and review blueprints to complete slitting checklist.
  • Set web guides and knives according to customer specifications.
  • Wipe rollers with alcohol, adjust gauges, and put lay down arms on slitter.
  • Prepare machine for the next job by checking specifications and reviewing job folders.
  • Ensure machine operates according to process specifications and watch for quality issues.
  • Record sets on AS400 and daily totals on scoreboards as required.
  • Set footage counter, hang rolls, and cut out press stops and splices.
  • Cut cores as required and deliver samples to the lab for Quality Assurance.
  • Label, bag, and put away sets as time permits.
  • Follow all safety rules and complete other duties as assigned by Manufacturing Supervisor.
