About The Position

Makes ready and operates slitter machines to produce register rolls according to specifications by performing the following tasks: ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
  • Ability to walk and talk or hear.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and manipulate (push and adjust) master rolls that can weigh up to 3200 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include depth perception.
  • Ability to crawl along the ground on hands and knees to repair or adjust equipment and material.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare a new master paper roll for loading at machine’s lift station.
  • Inspect materials, products, and containers at each step of the packaging process.
  • Set all knives to accommodate different styles and repair broken or defective knives as needed.
  • Perform minor repairs to equipment.
  • Stop, reset, and restart machine when malfunctions occur.
  • Read work order to determine the specifications of jobs to be run.
  • Rethread paper through slitter if web breaks.
  • Record information such as style, time, and product produced and date packaged.
  • Maintain a clean and neat work area.
  • Minimal ability to operate computers.
