We are looking for a(n) Slitting Assistant Operator (2nd Shift) to be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of Slitting equipment to cut/slice printed/laminated film to the customer’s specification ensuring quality defects are identified and removed. This position is currently open and reflects a replacement position due to an internal transfer. The salary range for this position is $19.90 per hour (while assigned to second shift you will receive and additional $0.50 per hour), commensurate with experience, education, and internal equity. This range is provided to ensure clarity and promote equitable access to employment opportunities.

Requirements

  • Reading and writing skills corresponding to the level of High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Entry-Level: 1 year experience - as a machine helper within a manufacturing environment, preferably within Flexible Packaging.
  • Experienced 2+ years’ experience - possesses a demonstrated understanding of slitting machine operation and factors affecting quality, waste, and productivity preferable experience in flexible packaging. Possess an understanding of the materials and structures used in production and the factors causing common defects.
  • Computer literate
  • Ability to perform calculations involving decimals and fractions
  • Ability to read a ruler
  • Ability to interpret work orders.
  • Visually inspect print quality and understand the factors in productions which may cause a variance.
  • Capability to become forklift certified. (driver’s license, safe driving record).

Responsibilities

  • Support and contribute to a healthy and safe work environment following all workplace regulations, policies, and initiatives, including reporting all first aid injuries, accidents, and workplace hazards.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable PPE and Food Safety policies and procedures, wear steel tipped shoes, hearing protection, safety glasses, hairnets, beard nets, etc.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Review and interpret work card for job requirements.
  • Perform Job Setup:o Load master rolls of material onto the unwind shaft and threads machineo Load cores to the rewind sectiono Position/adjust bladeso Set/adjust tensionso Set/adjust speeds for optimal quality and efficiency
  • Inspect product during run for imperfections and quality defects; remove non-conforming material; perform splices as necessary.
  • Input/record waste and job productivities as required
  • Ensure efficiency targets are met.
  • Assist in the care and maintenance of equipment with assigned preventive maintenance tasks.
  • Coach and train assistants and support crews and communicate development to Supervisor.
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement projects.
