Under the direct supervision of a Sleep Technician or Sleep Technologist, the Sleep Lab Assistant provides non-licensed care and support in the Sleep Lab. Duties include verifying identification, collecting documents and consents for the study, reviewing the patient's history, and verifying the medical order. The Sleep Lab Assistant may be required to explain the procedure and assist in orienting the patient for the sleep study. Under supervision, may prepare equipment and assist with the application of electrodes and sensors. May be responsible for observing patient during study to relieve the Sleep Tech. The Sleep Lab Assistant will prepare patient mailers and perform general lab and clerical assistance.

  • Verify identification and collect documents and consents for the study.
  • Review patient's history and verify the medical order.
  • Explain the procedure and assist in orienting the patient for the sleep study.
  • Prepare equipment and assist with the application of electrodes and sensors under supervision.
  • Observe patient during study to relieve the Sleep Tech.
  • Prepare patient mailers and perform general lab and clerical assistance.
  • HS Diploma, GED or Equivalent.
  • 6 months patient care experience.
  • One year post-secondary education or current enrollment in an accredited educational program leading to an associate degree with an emphasis in sleep technology.
  • Current BLS for Healthcare Providers, issued by AHA.
  • Associate's Degree.
  • Medical Assistant.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant.
  • Nursing or Respiratory Therapy student.
