About The Position

Under the supervision of the Operations and Maintenance department manager/supervisor, this position performs skilled work across a wide variety of trade tasks including electrical, refrigeration, air conditioning, heating, ventilation, plumbing, and general building and equipment maintenance and repair. The role also includes simple construction and fabrication tasks, performed in accordance with established instructions and guidelines. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM- 5:00 PM Weekend work (Saturday and Sunday), overtime, on-call duty, and emergency callbacks are required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to operate a computer or iPad in order to receive and send and submit work orders using a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS)
  • Valid driver's license.
  • One to three years of general maintenance or related experience
  • Effectively communicate in English through email, verbal, and written formats
  • Read and interpret written materials, work instructions, safety procedures, and material data safety sheets
  • Lift, carry, grasp, and set down heavy objects (50-75 lbs) on a daily basis
  • Climb to heights averaging 50+ feet and work from ladders, scaffolding, and staging daily
  • Operate vehicles safely
  • Collaborate effectively with other trades and individuals from various backgrounds
  • Basic knowledge of methods, practices, tools, equipment, and materials used in building and mechanical trades
  • Ability to read and comprehend technical manuals and blueprints
  • Proficient use of tools and equipment for repair and maintenance of electrical and mechanical equipment
  • Working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and refrigeration systems
  • Operation of power tools including circular and reciprocating saws, sanders, grinders, drills, pipe thread machines, sewer machines, welders, acetylene torches, cut-off saws, and various hand tools, wrenches, electrical testing devices, and voltage meters

Nice To Haves

  • Trade school certificate in Electrical, HVAC, Plumbing, or Construction related field
  • Lift Operator Certification,
  • Certified Pool Operator,
  • Universal EPA Refrigerant Certification
  • Three to five years of general maintenance or preventative maintenance experience.

Responsibilities

  • Maintenance - 50% Performs a wide variety of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and building maintenance tasks. May assist carpenters, painters, plumbers, HVAC technicians, and electricians in their assigned duties.
  • Repairs - 20% Works independently and with supervision as needed on various building-related repair and installation projects within the Operations and Maintenance department.
  • Inventory - 15% Maintains shop areas, mechanical rooms, stock, and supplies. Manages waste generated from work tasks in accordance with institutional standards.
  • Compliance - 5% Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies. Promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  • Other Duties - 10% Performs any other duties and tasks as assigned or required to meet the goals of the department, division, and Georgia College.
