About The Position

Skilled Trades Supervisor of Building Maintenance, Fort Hays State University, Building Maintenance department, full-time position, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Skilled Trades Supervisor manages and coordinates daily maintenance issues for University facilities, structures, and other property. Oversees a team of employees to provide maintenance to assigned areas of campus. Manages the schedules and activities of maintenance staff members in order to direct and manage their workflow. Ensures that assigned staff members have all tools and materials required to complete assignments. Facilitates the efficient operation of academic and administrative facilities for students, faculty, and staff. Minimum Qualifications: This position requires a High School Diploma or equivalent. Must have five years of professional experience in several skilled trades. Preferred Qualifications: Supervisory experience Excellent written and verbal skills Experience with Microsoft Office Ability to organize and prioritize work More than 5 years of professional experience Extensive knowledge of all building trades and general maintenance repairs Priority Deadline: December 7, 2025. Responsibilities

  • Manage maintenance projects; communicate upcoming projects and information with employees and review work orders.
  • Prioritize and assign work orders to appropriate employees.
  • Review completed work orders for quality control.
  • Hire, train, and evaluate new and existing employees.
  • Confer with external parties to clarify the details of work orders.
  • Organize work performed in shops and information related to work orders.
  • Approve employee time sheets and time off requests.
  • Acquire needed equipment, tools and materials.
  • Maintain appropriate inventory and keep accurate records.
  • Manage and oversee preventative maintenance of campus facilities systems.
  • Arrange cost estimates, and write and manage job cost records.
  • Locate and mark campus utilities for current and future projects.
  • Communicate with all contractors to make sure they are aware of utilities.
  • Prepare invoices for office staff by reviewing purchased items and assigning appropriate account information.
  • Respond to after-hours emergencies.
  • Provide positive customer service.
  • Perform any other related duties as required and assigned.
