About The Position

The Skilled Laborer performs a variety of field construction and maintenance tasks under the supervision of higher-level employees. Work involves assisting crews with general labor, equipment operation, job site preparation, and supporting extra workloads, absences, and vacations, as well as unusual changes in the production area or weather conditions. The position is primarily outdoors and requires clothing appropriate for changing seasons and weather conditions. Traveling out of town to work on remote job sites may be required as directed by management. Skilled Laborers are classified into three levels—Skilled Laborer I, II, and III—based on experience, skill proficiency, and ability to work independently. Requirements

  • Skilled Laborer I – Entry Level: Entry-level; on-the-job training provided by department trainer.
  • Skilled Laborer II – Intermediate Level: Minimum of 2,000 hours meeting or exceeding all Skilled Laborer I (Laborer I) requirements.
  • Skilled Laborer III – Advanced Level: Minimum of 3,000 hours meeting or exceeding all Skilled Laborer II (Laborer II) requirements.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • OSHA 10 safety training required:
  • For Skilled Laborer I and II: Must complete OSHA 10 within 30 days of hire if not already held.
  • For Skilled Laborer III: Must have completed OSHA 10 safety training prior to or at promotion to this level.
  • Valid state driver’s license required.
  • Prolonged standing and walking.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 80 pounds and push and/or pull 50-pound loads.
  • Manual dexterity to operate a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions and tolerate exposure to typical jobsite noise, dust, and odors.
  • Physical strength, balance, hand-eye coordination, and stamina necessary to complete tasks in various field environments.
  • Must always wear company-required PPE, including a hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, a high-visibility vest, and steel-toed boots. Additional PPE (hearing protection, respiratory gear, etc.) may be required depending on the task or job site conditions.
