About The Position

Skill Builder's, Youth Support Specialists are part-time positions (up to 29 hours per week) with a starting pay of $23.00 per hour. This role is part of a growing program at The Salvation Army, providing Behavioral Health Services in the Syracuse Area. The position allows for flexibility in scheduling and qualifies for PTO benefits. Skill Builders provide individualized mental health support services to children and youth (ages 0–21) facing emotional or behavioral challenges. Services are delivered in community settings such as homes, schools, and other natural environments to help youth and families build skills, manage symptoms, and function successfully in their daily lives. A monthly productivity incentive is provided for qualifying providers.

Requirements

  • Minimum of High School Diploma, GED or Technical school is required.
  • At least 2 years of experience working with children or youth.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable private transportation that meets Salvation Army insurance requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Support the child/youth in developing and applying functional skills within their natural environment.
  • Foster the growth of age-appropriate skills that enhance personal development and community engagement.
  • Enhance the child/youth’s social and interpersonal abilities through targeted interventions.
  • Deliver services in both individual and group settings throughout the community.
  • Engage with the child/youth across various environments, including their home, school, workplace, social settings, and the agency's facility.
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation of services in compliance with Medicaid billing requirements and agency policies.
  • Coordinate with other service providers involved in the child/youth’s treatment plan to support ongoing care and planning.
  • Apply culturally competent and trauma-informed practices in all aspects of service delivery.
  • Participate in weekly supervision meetings with the assigned supervisor for guidance and professional development.
