About The Position

Join the City of Hampton Police Division through the Department of Defense Skillbridge program, which provides transitioning service members with career skills training. As a Police Recruit, you will gain hands-on experience in law enforcement, preparing you for a rewarding career in public safety.

Requirements

• Must be within 180 days of separation from military service.
• Approval from current military command to participate in the Skillbridge program.
• Graduation from an accredited high school course of study or successful completion of a GED; college level coursework in Police Science or related field preferred.
• Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain a satisfactory driver's record.
• Must pass City physical examination, background investigation (including polygraph examination), and physical agility examination.
• Must be at least twenty (20) years of age at time of application.

• College level coursework in Police Science or related field of study.

Responsibilities

• Attend Police Academy and complete a period of probationary status prior to permanent appointment.
• Participate in training and gain hands-on experience in law enforcement.
• Maintain the ability to provide credible testimony in court and other situations.
• Be available for rotation to any Police Recruit position within the Police Division.
• Respond to city emergency situations as essential personnel, which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
