About The Position

Purpose of the position: This position is responsible for providing professional prehospital care, first aid, and rescue to guests, maintaining trails, participating in skier/snowboard education, monitoring skiing/snowboarding to ensure mountain safety, supervising rescue operations; such as lift evacuation, night search, and avalanche rescue. This position will supervise all aspects of daily ski patrol operation, and assign duties to ski patrollers as necessary to complete daily tasks. This Position will maintain expert level knowledge of all ski patrol duties, and specializations, and act as a resource for other Ski Patrollers. This position will be responsible for conducting avalanche mitigation often as a route leader.

Requirements

  • 18 years of age or older
  • HS Diploma or equivalent
  • Current National Ski Patrol Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) certification, Arizona EMT or WFR.
  • Valid driver's license, with a clean driving record.
  • Advanced to expert skiing ability and be able to safely negotiate any area of the mountain in all weather and snow conditions.
  • At least one year of training in Avalanche mitigation is required.
  • Professional written and verbal communication skills.
  • 5 years Ski Patrol experience at the Arizona Snowbowl or 4 years Professional Ski Patrol experience at another ski area and at least 2 years at the Arizona Snowbowl

  • Professional customer service experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Efficiently and safely provide direct patient care; including determining the nature of injury and notifying dispatch of equipment needed to stabilize, and transport an injured guest.
  • Provide assistance to uninjured guests in difficult situations.
  • Complete and review documentation of incidents, complete and review daily logs, resolve conflicts, and negotiate with disgruntled guests and employees.
  • Assess and mitigate hazards and safety concerns within the resort area.
  • Maintain resort area signs, ropes, padding, and fencing.
  • Maintain readiness for searches, chairlift evacuation, avalanche rescue, and other situations.
  • Operate snowmobile as needed following established snowmobile and gas log procedures.
  • Operate machinery in a safe and careful manner.
  • Complete all required documentation in a professional and timely manner including incident reports, logs, and checklists.
  • Follow safety procedures at all times, report any potential or existing safety hazards to supervisor immediately or remedy when possible.
  • Check safety and rescue equipment daily for proper function and readiness.
  • Develop and maintain complete knowledge of the patrol procedures and patrol operations, and serve as a resource for other Ski Patrollers.
  • Provide Ski Patrol coverage for special events.
  • Provide training for Ski Patrollers and other resort employees.
  • Assign duties and oversee task completion as required for patrol operations.
  • Conduct avalanche mitigation, often in a lead role.
  • May be required to run the dispatch station.
