About The Position

Under the direction of the Assistant Manager and the Skating Director, the Skating Academy Instructor Level I instructs participants in “Learn to Skate” programs. The expected starting pay is $14.00 per hour. (The 2026 salary range for this position is $14.00 to $17.00 per hour). Seasonal and part-time employees performing work for at least 80 hours in a year for the City are eligible for Earned Safe and Sick Time (ESST). ESST is paid at the same hourly rate that an employee is paid from employment with the City. ESST will accrue at a rate of one hour per 30 hours worked, up to a maximum of 48 hours of ESST per year. ESST begins to accrue at the commencement of employment. Employees may begin using ESST once they have worked 80 hours. Applications will be accepted until the positions are filled. Requirements

  • Knowledge of basic ice-skating skills.
  • Ability to teach USFS Snowplow Sam through Basic 5.
  • Ability to be in skates and on the ice for a minimum of 3 hours.
  • Hockey or figure skating experience.
  • One year of experience teaching in a group setting.
  • Past participation in group lessons in an established school, club or apprenticeship program.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the instruction of the Learn to Skate program.
  • Teaches the Learn to Skate classes as required.
  • Tracks students attendance and progress.
  • Assists in controlling the students both on and off the ice.
  • Establishes and maintains good relationships with the public.
  • Maintains punctuality in arriving and departing at schedule times.
  • Assists in annual ice show as assigned.
  • Following class criteria, instructs students according to their appropriate ability level.
  • Performs other essential job duties.
  • Regular and timely work attendance.
  • Follows all safety procedures and participates in safety training.
  • Provides a safe and fun learning environment.
  • Follows the policies and procedures of the ice arena.
