About The Position

As the Skagit County 4‑H Program Coordinator for Washington State University (WSU) Extension, you work under the guidance of regional 4‑H Faculty and the local county Extension Director to provide oversight and leadership for the 4‑H Program in Skagit County, which currently serves approximately 350 members enrolled in more than 20 active clubs led by 75 volunteers. You provide leadership in volunteer management, including training and supporting volunteers, and collaborate to implement volunteer‑led programs, events, and activities in accordance with WSU Extension policies and procedures. In this role, you are also responsible for recruiting new members and leading outreach and partnership efforts with other youth‑serving organizations. Additional Information: This is a full (100% FTE), temporary position. This position is overtime eligible. This is a temporary position expected to end December 31, 2026. Renewal is dependent on the need for extension and/or if additional funding is secured to extend employment. Funding has been renewed successfully for several years and we expect funding to continue to be renewed.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant extension program discipline and two (2) years of related program experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis. The required Bachelor’s degree must be in a discipline relevant to positive youth development. Equivalent experience may also satisfy this requirement.
  • Must have, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver’s license and meet requirements in accordance with SPPM 7.10 and departmental driving standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and make decisions that benefit the program.
  • Ability to travel within targeted counties.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team member.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and in a timely manner using oral, written and listening skills.
  • Ability to work a flexible, yet structured schedule with occasional night and weekend shifts to meet the needs of program partners and grant requirements.
  • Must successfully pass the WSU 4-H Youth Development/Child Protection Screening Process.

Nice To Haves

  • Educational background/ training in animal sciences, livestock production or related area.
  • Language and cultural competency in Spanish.
  • Demonstrated experience in mediation services.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing volunteers.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact effectively, with persons of varying levels of responsibility and experience, both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office Excel and Workday.
