The position involves transporting patients to and from various locations safely and in a professional, courteous, and timely manner. The individual will maintain transportation equipment according to department standards for cleanliness and proper functioning.

  • Prioritizes patient transports and resolves associated patient care issues according to established policies/procedures.
  • Transfers and transports patients independently to and from various locations within specified departmental productivity standards.
  • Maneuvers patient transport related equipment/supplies within established guidelines.
  • Greets patients pleasantly and with respect, explaining the purpose of patient transport.
  • Communicates with hospital personnel and family members regarding patient transport.
  • Identifies and verifies patient name and transport destination prior to transport.
  • Uses safe techniques and proper equipment to provide a safe environment for patients and others.
  • Reports isolation precautions to departmental staff when not noted on requisition.
  • Signs patients in and out at nurses station and appointment location.
  • Recognizes impending emergencies and takes appropriate action.
  • Cleans and maintains equipment according to established department standards.
  • Completes required paperwork accurately, completely, and in a timely fashion.
  • Maintains personal productivity statistics within the standards set for time and volume.
  • High school diploma or GED or equivalent required.
  • Current Heart Saver certification.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with patients/families and collaborate with unit teams.
  • Ability to walk and stand for up to 100% of work time.
  • Ability to push, pull, bend, and lift to position and transfer patients.
  • Excellent customer service orientation skills.
  • Previous patient transport experience preferred.
