About The Position

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is seeking to hire a Site Technician II at Morrison Rockwood State Park for the Office of Land Management. This position will use manual or automated yard equipment such as tractors, batwing mowers, front end loaders, dump trucks, snowplows, bulldozers, backhoes, road graders, farming machinery for site construction and other projects; mow grass and prepare areas for grass seeding; monitor and remove invasive and unwanted vegetation; apply pesticides/herbicides where needed. Morrison Rockwood State Park offers a variety of recreational opportunities. Beautiful Lake Carlton, a stream-fed reservoir, features an abundance of ducks and geese and is considered a prime location for fishing. Morrison-Rockwood is a popular spot for a family outing at the Lakeview picnic area, or watching birds among the hickory, ash, oak and walnut trees. We welcome all qualified candidates to apply.

Requirements

• Requires education and experience equivalent to high school graduation and two years maintenance or farming experience preferably associated with building trades and/or the operation of heavy machinery.
• Requires completion of a background check and self-disclosure of criminal history.
• Requires appropriate,valid Driver’s license.
• Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties.
• Requires ability to obtain pesticide/herbicide operator’s license within 6 months of employment.
• Requires ability to withstand exposure to the elements on a year-round basis.
• Requires physical ability to operate and maintain tools, equipment, and materials utilized in the maintenance, repair, and care of site resources, buildings, and grounds.
• Requires ability to lift, carry, and transport loads exceeding sixty pounds.
• Requires ability to walk over rough and broken terrain.
• Requires ability to obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR certification.

Nice To Haves

• Working knowledge of tools and equipment used in the trades and/or operation of heavy equipment or farm machinery and implements and/or warehousing.
• Two (2) years of experience following oral or written instructions.
• One (1) year of experience informing visitors of site facilities, programs, rules and regulations.
• One (1) year of experience in outdoor recreation.
• One (1) year of experience in groundskeeping.

Responsibilities

• Under direct supervision, performs semi-skilled work and travels in the maintenance and operation of Morrison Rockwood State Park, Prophetstown State Park, Big Bend State Fish and Wildlife Read, Coleta Trout Ponds, Fulton Thompson Sand Prairie, Mill Road Marsh, Great River Trail, and Little Rock Creek State Habitat Area.
• Maintains tree removal throughout the properties.
• Monitors and repairs site equipment and facilities.
• Provides guidance to intermittent and seasonal staff including conservation workers and camp hosts.
• Engages in the campground and hunting areas seasonally.
• Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
