About The Position

Piper Companies is seeking a Site Reliability Engineer to join A global leader in internet infrastructure and security services company located in Reston, VA. The Site Reliability Engineer will be essential for maintaining the reliability, efficiency and security of their data platforms. This position will be on-site in Reston, VA two days per week!

Requirements

5+ years of hands-on experience managing big data platforms such as Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, and Druid
Expert-level knowledge of Linux configuration and administration
Proven automation expertise - with a clear understanding of what and why to automate, not just how
Strong proficiency in Infrastructure-as-Code tools, particularly Ansible
Practical experience deploying and managing Docker or Kubernetes in production environments
Exceptional communication skills - able to clearly articulate complex technical concepts in writing and speech
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience

Responsibilities

Design and oversee the deployment and management of large-scale data platforms (Kafka, Spark, Hadoop, Druid) within Kubernetes environments.
Implement automation for cluster provisioning, scaling, and monitoring using Ansible, Python, and Jenkins.
Collaborate on solution architecture, integrating open-source, commercial, and custom-built components.
Maintain system reliability by monitoring telemetry, visualizing performance metrics, and setting up alerts.
Enhance platform capabilities and security through upgrades while minimizing customer impact.
Diagnose and resolve complex issues across distributed systems.
Stay ahead of industry trends, adopting best practices for hybrid cloud environments.
Deliver responsive support to internal stakeholders using the data platform.
Participate in on-call rotations to monitor production systems and address incidents promptly.
