About The Position

The Site Manager II position at Historic Bath State Historic Site in Bath is a leadership role responsible for the supervision, preservation, program development, and operation of the site. The work includes developing and implementing operational and interpretive plans, fostering community support, creating educational programming, maintaining a strong volunteer program, conducting visitor services and presentations on and off-site, coordinating budget and purchasing, conducting research, and maintaining the restored Palmer-Marsh House, Bonner House, Van der Veer House, cemeteries, and the modern visitor center. The position requires planning events and directly supervising four full-time staff members. The work schedule is Monday-Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with some holiday, evening, and weekend work expected.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of United States history and/or North Carolina history
  • Demonstrated experience in supervision of staff in a museum or historic sites setting
  • Demonstrated experience developing and/or implementing educational programming
  • Bachelor's degree in history or a field specifically related to the site of employment from an appropriately accredited institution
  • One year of experience in managing the operation of a historic site, in historical research or interpretation, or in a field specifically related to the site of employment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Demonstrated experience with event planning, living history, and/or community outreach

Responsibilities

  • Supervision of full-time staff, temporary staff, and volunteers
  • Preservation of site features, historic buildings, and grounds; visitor services and interpretation
  • Marketing and publicity planning; planning for events and educational programming; research and compilation of documents; care of artifacts; daily grounds and facility upkeep and cleanliness
  • Supervision of budget and payroll; purchasing of supplies, materials, and equipment; supervision of gift shop and deposits
  • Develop community support and work with local interest groups

Benefits

  • Salary range: $39,671 - $47,142 based on qualifications, equity, and funding at the time of hire
