Requirements

  • 3+ years of work experience in a railroad related industry
  • Supervisory experience
  • Knowledge and understanding of safety rules and procedures
  • Experience with railcar switching, loading, transloading, and railcar repair depending on contractual requirements
  • Good analytical and management skills
  • Effective communication skills both written and verbal
  • Effective computer skills (Microsoft Office, applications, reporting, etc.)
  • Experience working in a safety-sensitive work environment
  • Possess situational awareness and decision-making abilities to respond effectively in a safety sensitive environment
  • Associate's degree or an equivalent combination of high school diploma / GED and experience
  • Valid driver's license
  • At least 18 years of age
  • Pre-employment physical, hearing, and vision medical review
  • Subject to federally mandated drug and alcohol testing including pre-employment drug screening
  • Background screening including criminal and motor vehicle driving history
  • Must live within 50 miles of assigned location or be willing to relocate.

  • bachelor's degree preferred
  • Current Locomotive Engineer certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Manage the safety performance, operating practices, and financial compliance of the operation
  • Interface with customers and monitor the quality of service in accordance with contractual terms
  • Assist in railcar switching and related functions as necessary to maintain operations
  • Provide training and development for all employees in accordance with company and site-specific rules, requirements, and procedures
  • Oversee crews, schedules, and personnel
  • Manage payroll within the targeted budget, control expenses, and exceed customer expectations regarding safety and service
  • Partner with the General Manager and Human Resources on hiring and employee relations according to policies when necessary
  • Coach and train employees in operating practices according to federal regulations and company policies
  • Maintain accurate records and reporting including attendance, discipline payroll, inspections, training, certifications, compliance documents, and billing sheets
  • Conduct and document efficiency / operational tests according to company and federal rules, regulations, policies and practices
  • Respond to and investigate accidents/incidents (i.e. derailments, personal injury, etc.), prepare associated reports, and provide proper notification of incidents
  • Manage other projects and perform other duties as assigned
