About The Position

The Nature Camp Site Director is responsible for the planning and implementation of summer camps for 5-13 years’ old. The Nature Camp Site Director purchases program materials, creation and construction of program materials and daily supervision including coordination of staff needs, camp and program schedules and the set up and clean up of program areas. The Nature Camp Site Director trains and supervises a team of Counselors and provides guidance throughout the summer. In addition, this person will be able to work hands-on with campers, students, teachers and parents. The H-F Park District’s mission statement is “to enhance the quality of life through diverse recreational opportunities, facilities and parks while caring for the environment”.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of natural systems, ecology and biodiversity preferred.
  • Basic understanding of environmental issues and education processes.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with children K-8th grade.
  • Must work well independently as well as with a team.
  • Must have experience in leading group activities and experiences with children.
  • Minimum 1 year of college in education, biology, environmental studies, or related fields.
  • Must complete new staff orientation, on-line safety test and program training.
  • AED and CPR certification.
  • Read and implement camp and nature programs according to manual.
  • Understand program and educational goals and objectives.
  • Respond to questions and concerns from program participants/parents.
  • Must be able to motivate campers, have good leadership and communication skills and able to work without continued direction.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of teaching methods, cooperative games and outdoor skills preferred.
  • Knowledge of nature related activities, games and crafts recommended.
  • Familiarity with outdoor skills a plus.
  • Previous camp experience is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Provide outstanding customer service to our internal and external guests by providing friendly, responsive, courteous and helpful service.
  • Develop Camp programs and activities and set weekly schedule.
  • Supervise staff and coordinate schedules.
  • Care for program materials including set up & take down.
  • Establish and implement camp rules.
  • Create and conduct counselor training.
  • Coordinate nature field trips and speakers.
  • Keep accurate sign in sheets and camp records.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures outlined in the Safety Manual.
  • Other related job duties as assigned.
