The Site Coordinator for the Middle School Jazz Academy (MSJA) at Jazz at Lincoln Center is a pivotal role designed to support the educational and developmental needs of young jazz musicians. The mission of Jazz at Lincoln Center, Inc. (JALC) is to entertain, enrich, and expand a global community for jazz through performance, education, and advocacy. The MSJA program is a comprehensive initiative that combines music lessons, ensemble rehearsals, and performances with broader youth development activities, including attendance at Jazz at Lincoln Center concerts. The curriculum emphasizes skills-based learning alongside aesthetic education, fostering self-discovery, creativity, and guided reflection among students. As the Academy Assistant, you will work closely with the Youth Programs Director to provide essential support to MSJA students. This includes setting up classrooms with necessary instruments and materials, taking attendance, and following up with families regarding student participation. You will also assist in reviewing student assignments and journals, accompany students during practice sessions to model musical techniques, and participate in planning and professional development meetings. The role requires a commitment to youth development and a passion for using jazz as a tool for enrichment in students' lives. The position is part-time, requiring up to 10 hours per week from October to May, with a specific schedule commitment to attend staff meetings and Sunday sessions. The work environment is collaborative, taking place at Jazz at Lincoln Center's administrative offices and performance venues, ensuring that all staff work together as a cohesive team. This role is not remote, and candidates must be prepared to engage fully in the in-person activities of the program.
