Due to continued growth, Boswell has a rare career growth opportunity for an experienced Site Civil Engineer with Geotechnical experience based at our Chester, NJ office! The ideal candidate will be a well-rounded civil professional with a focus on land development and a solid understanding of geotechnical principles. This position requires hands-on site experience, strong design skills, and the ability to work collaboratively to ensure project success from initial design through to final construction. Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering or related
  • Specific Technical Experience: 3+ years of professional experience in civil engineering design and geotechnical fieldwork, which includes logging borings and test pits
  • Licensure: Minimum of EIT Certification is required with the desire to obtain a New Jersey (NJ) Professional Engineer (P.E.) license within 3 years
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with design software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations related to land development and environmental compliance
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering plans and specifications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Aptitude for detailed observation and accurate data recording
  • Strong knowledge of soil and rock classification (e.g., USCS, USDA)
  • Interpretation of geotechnical reports and field test data (e.g., SPT, CPT).
  • Physical Requirements: Must be able to work outdoors in various weather conditions and navigate uneven terrain on construction sites

Responsibilities

  • Design and Engineering: Develop civil engineering plans, including site layouts, grading, utility systems, stormwater management using AutoCAD or AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Project Management: Support the project lifecycle by assisting with schedules, budgets, and resource allocation
  • Field Exploration: Supervise and log soil borings, test pits, and other subsurface explorations to collect data on soil, rock, and groundwater conditions
  • Geotechnical Analysis: Apply geotechnical knowledge to interpret soil and site data. Assist with foundation design, slope stability analysis, and recommend appropriate earthwork solutions
  • Documentation and Reporting: Prepare and review technical reports, engineering calculations, and other project documentation for submittal to clients and regulatory agencies
  • Communication: Coordinate with drilling crews, contractors and project managers, architects, subcontractors, and other engineering disciplines to resolve technical issues and facilitate project completion.
