About The Position

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is looking to hire a Site Assistant Superintendent 1 at Moraine Hills State Park for The Office of Land Management. This position will coordinate and participate in mowing activities, report spending and project costs to the Site Superintendent, operate hunter check stations, record and report hunter harvests, collect hunter permit fees, explain site regulations to visitors, supervise staff in the operation of all hunter check stations, provide guidance and training to assigned staff, and perform CPR and First Aid. From hiking & biking to fishing & birding, Moraine Hills State Park is a recreational paradise in northeast Illinois. Located three miles south of the city of McHenry in McHenry County, about half of the state park's 2,200 acres is composed of wetlands and lakes. The diverse habitats support an abundance of plants and a great variety of wildlife to enjoy along ten-plus miles of trails. Requirements

  • Requires education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree with courses in parks and recreation, natural resource administration, or public administration and one year’s related functional supervisory experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefers working knowledge of the principles and practices of site administration, including site interpretation, natural and/or cultural resource conservation, structural and grounds maintenance, public relations, personnel administration, and fiscal management.
  • Prefers two (2) years of experience in problem solving situations encountered in the performance of the duties and responsibilities.
  • Prefers one (1) year of experience assigning, supervising, and evaluating the work of subordinate employees.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and participates in Moraine Hills/Volo Bog, oversees maintenance activities such as building repairs, vehicle and equipment maintenance, minor construction.
  • Monitors and collects data at site for usage of fuel tanks, well usage, and water supply reports, vehicle mileage reports, equipment repairs.
  • Supervises and participates in the administration and operation of all site hunting and fishing programs.
  • Directs and participates in maintenance activities at the site.
  • Serves as working supervisor.
  • Coordinates and supervises volunteer groups and court ordered community service workers involved in general site operations, projects, and events.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
