About The Position

The Medical Assistant at Mount Sinai Hospital is responsible for preparing examination and treatment rooms, accompanying patients, verifying patient identification, and obtaining vital signs. The ideal candidate will assist physicians during examinations or treatments, perform routine treatments or diagnostic procedures, and maintain cleanliness and order in examination and treatment rooms. The role also includes patient reception and general office duties as scheduled or directed.

Requirements

• Completion of high school or GED program.
• Medical Assistant Diploma required.
• Completion of four to six weeks of Medical Assisting Externship.
• No previous experience required plus one to three months of on-the-job training.
• Ability to read and understand instructions and perform basic arithmetic.
• Ability to exchange information courteously and tactfully.

Responsibilities

• Prepares examination and treatment rooms with necessary supplies and instruments.
• Maintains high quality of patient care and greets patients courteously.
• Verifies patient identification and confirms scheduled exams or treatments.
• Obtains and records vital signs and patient information.
• Assists physicians during examinations or treatments by passing instruments and supplies.
• Performs and records routine treatments or diagnostic procedures as directed.
• Observes patients and reports reactions or changes in condition.
• Conducts phlebotomy procedures and maintains laboratory logs.
• Performs minor laboratory tests and documents results.
• Transports patients as required.
• Handles office duties such as answering phones and maintaining records.
• Assists with scheduling patient referrals and follow-up of 'No-Show' patients.
• Maintains confidentiality and security of patient records.
• Cleans and maintains examination and service rooms.
• Assists in the orientation of new employees.
