About The Position

Alaska Airlines is seeking a Flight Simulator Engineer to join the team to provide support and expertise in Flight Simulator Training Devices (FSTDs). This role supports the FSTDs, allowing Alaska Airlines to meet its current and future training objectives, and ensures their availability by applying engineering, experience, logic, reasoning, and ingenuity in a systematic effort to bring closure to complex technical issues. The position has three levels: Associate Simulator Engineer (P1), Simulator Engineer (P2), and Senior Flight Simulator Engineer (P3), each with increasing responsibilities and expertise in managing and maintaining FSTDs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or an additional two years of simulator engineering experience in lieu of this degree.
  • Understanding of electronic engineering with complex linear and digital circuits.
  • Working knowledge of aeronautical principles and ability to identify root cause of Qualification Test Guide (QTG) issues.
  • Competence in pilot skills for aircraft procedures, systems, and handling characteristics.
  • Understanding of computer engineering with hardware/software knowledge across multiple platforms.
  • Effective communication skills (verbal, written, and listening).
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized, with the ability to multi-task and work independently.
  • Minimum age of 18 and must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Nice To Haves

  • In-depth understanding of pilot skills for aircraft procedures and systems.
  • Experience with visual image generators and visual display systems.
  • Ability to function effectively without assistance or direction.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with 24/7 Flight Simulator Training Device (FSTD) engineering coverage.
  • Supports and resolves FSTD discrepancies through troubleshooting and repair utilizing fault-finding techniques.
  • Partners with SIM Engineers in conducting regulatory compliance testing and preventative maintenance procedures.
  • Conducts training and technical assistance to other Sim Dept. personnel.
  • Ensures the FSTDs are configured to reflect the Alaska fleet.
  • Establishes simulator process improvements to reduce training interruptions, discrepancies, and down-time.
  • Utilizes existing computer-based tools and utilities to improve FSTD maintainability and availability.
  • Provides input into pre-flights and other testing of the FSTDs.
  • Acts as a subject matter expert to provide technical support and make decisions on major updates to enhance department technical infrastructure.
