About The Position

The Zamierowski Institute for Experiential Learning (ZIEL) is an education and training center for students at the University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC) and professionals at The University of Kansas Health System (TUKHS). The Simulation Technology Specialist II is an intermediate-level technical position contributing to the daily work of healthcare simulation program delivery. This position is part of the program delivery team responsible for installing, operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting high-fidelity patient simulators, lower-fidelity task trainers, medical equipment, computer hardware and software, recording devices, and related multimedia technologies used in the training of healthcare professionals and students. As part of a team that delivers simulation events through equipment, supply, moulage, and costume preparation; event setup and teardown; and the technical operation of software and hardware during simulation activities, this position organizes and follows complex and/or detailed task instructions to prepare for assigned events and supports recurring simulations with semi-complex technical requirements. The Simulation Technology Specialist II participates as a member of the program delivery team and identifies potential technical issues and preventative measures when possible. The position performs routine diagnostics and configuration of assigned software and hardware and supports the overall objectives of simulation program delivery. The role may also assist with simulation-related quality improvement activities as designated and provides training on simulators, computer hardware and software, audiovisual equipment, and related technologies. The position interacts with a broad range of internal clients and utilizes a variety of technical resources to support simulation program delivery. This is a non-exempt position reporting to the Simulation Operations Manager.

Requirements

  • Four (4) years experience in clinical simulation and/or audiovisual. Relevant education may substitute experience on a year for year basis.
  • Six (months) months of Simulation Operations Technician I experience, or equivalent.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in an academic institution.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot simulation equipment, clinical equipment, specialized audiovisual and computer hardware/software, applications, recording systems and network systems.
  • Follow standard operating procedures, instructions, and checklists to prepare, set-up and cleanup simulation and procedural skills events.
  • Communicate emerging issues early and propose possible solutions.
  • Complete operational preparedness activities to ensure equipment, supplies, and facilities standards are consistently met.
  • Participate in curriculum design meetings to facilitate technical planning and delivery for simulation activities.
  • Work with Simulation Operations Technologists, instructors, and facilitators on case development, testing, and running scenarios.
  • Program and operate simulator software for physiological response per instructor specifications.
  • Manage recording, playback, storage, and cataloguing of simulations.
  • Develop technical documentation and checklists for simulation programming, as directed by Technical Operations leadership.
  • Order supplies and re-stock inventory after simulation activities.
  • Acquire and maintain skills and knowledge related to existing and newly acquired technologies.
  • Review emergent technologies and make recommendations for purchasing.
  • Generate innovative approaches for technology improvement and integration into healthcare education.
