About The Position

The Simulation Instructor is responsible for working with faculty, students, staff and key stakeholders to ensure that the highest quality simulation learning activities are efficiently implemented across all Egan School programs. UNUSUAL WORK CONDITIONS: Potential exposure to Bloodborne pathogens

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing
  • Demonstrates ability to plan, implement, and evaluate simulation experiences/scenarios.
  • Up to date with simulation education, research and practice.
  • Familiarity with use and maintenance of simulation equipment and AV equipment (or ability to learn new AV systems).
  • Collaborative approach to working with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Ability to handle all situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills to represent simulation resources internally and externally.
  • Commitment to fostering diversity and inclusivity.
  • Capable of working throughout disciplines via faculty and student body.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Proficient with learning management systems and database management.
  • 2-3 years’ experience in simulation-based education and training, evaluation of outcomes, patient safety, and implementation of innovative simulation based education and training programs necessary, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate on curricular integration of simulation including standardized patients and state of the art instructional technologies throughout the academic programs along with inter-professional initiatives.
  • Designs, implements and evaluates clinical simulation curriculum to ensure that expected competencies are being taught across programs.
  • Assist with educational programs for faculty development and continuing education in use of simulation, debriefing, assessment, and innovations in clinical education.
  • Assists in the collection of data on learning outcomes for simulation and collaborates with faculty on disseminating findings.
  • Raises awareness of the use of simulation resources internally and externally through entrepreneurial and grant funded opportunities and peer reviewed publications.
  • Assist with oversight of the standardized patient program.
  • Evaluates outcome measurements.
  • Ensures that instruction is consistent with national professional standards to assure skill and knowledge competencies of graduates.
  • Contributes to department reports on all program activities, standards, accreditation requirements, external meetings, educational concerns, and student successes.
  • Works collaboratively with Connecticut League of Nursing, NLN, and other organizations to develop and ensure collaborative efforts that maximize resources.
  • Collaborates with Director on appropriate job descriptions for existing and evolving program staff.
  • Collaborates with university administrative offices and Associate Dean of Nursing in planning of open house lab tours, marketing events, admitted student open house days, and any other events that occur on campus that include the school of nursing simulation and lab facilities.
  • Performs such other duties, responsibilities, and activities as required by supervisor and as departmental/University needs indicate.
