The Simulation Coordinator for the Department of Nurse Anesthesia at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the simulation program. This role involves integrating simulation technology into the curriculum, collaborating with faculty to enhance simulation-based learning experiences, and overseeing the maintenance and operation of simulation labs and equipment. The coordinator will also assist in developing and delivering simulation events, ensuring that educational and operational goals are met.

  • Collaborate with the Director of Simulation and faculty to design and implement high-fidelity simulation scenarios.
  • Maintain simulation lab schedules and manage equipment and supplies, including high-fidelity mannequins.
  • Support simulation activities, including control room operations and assisting faculty during debriefing sessions.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues related to simulation equipment, including software and audiovisual components.
  • Work with faculty, students, and stakeholders to plan and coordinate multidisciplinary simulation activities.
  • Ensure simulation events align with the department's educational goals and contribute to broader strategic objectives.
  • Maintain university fixed assets in the simulation labs and perform regular maintenance and repairs on simulation equipment.
  • Provide oversight and guidance to students during simulation lab experiences.
  • Commit to a professional development plan to achieve the Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) certification.
  • Associate degree or equivalent work experience in a related field.
  • Clinical knowledge and experience as an allied health professional.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with faculty, students, and vendors.
  • Familiarity with simulation technology and ability to learn additional software programs.
  • Knowledge of standard audiovisual equipment operation and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information and work with sensitive student data.
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Willingness to travel to distance education sites within Virginia.
  • Experience in instructional design or simulation-based education.
  • Familiarity with the latest trends in healthcare simulation.
