About The Position

The Simulation Center Specialist at Texas Tech University is responsible for coordinating the simulation center schedule, operating and maintaining simulation equipment, and providing technical support for faculty and staff. This role involves setting up and taking down laboratory equipment, programming simulator software, and ensuring effective communication with various stakeholders. The specialist will also be involved in maintaining simulation activities and learner confidentiality while adhering to institutional policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with coursework in a related area plus two years of related full-time paid experience, or a combination of related experience and/or education totaling six years.
  • Knowledge of basic simulation and medical practice and procedures.
  • Accurate and skillful use of personal computer and assigned software.
  • Detail-oriented and able to perform satisfactorily under pressure of deadlines.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of institutional policies and procedures in curriculum implementation.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and/or sit continuously to perform essential job functions accurately and safely with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates simulation center schedule in compliance with policies to prevent scheduling conflicts.
  • Programs simulator software to model physiological responses according to instructor specifications.
  • Operates patient simulators and cameras during simulations.
  • Maintains audio-visual and debriefing systems.
  • Sets up and takes down simulation laboratory equipment, including rapid turnover setups.
  • Maintains computer-based training programs.
  • Communicates effectively with faculty, administrative staff, and learners.
  • Sets up and maintains surgical/procedural simulators.
  • Provides theatrical production support for simulation scenarios as requested.
  • Mixes fake body fluids and creates wounds for simulations.
  • Provides technical assistance and training to faculty and staff in using simulation equipment.
  • Maintains knowledge of simulation equipment catalogs and operation manuals.
  • Collects data for ongoing research or grant requirements.
  • Communicates with manufacturers regarding maintenance and technology changes.
  • Collaborates with supervisor to maintain and restock simulation laboratory supplies.
  • Maintains confidentiality of simulation activities and learners.
  • Provides recommendations on equipment and supplies.
  • Maintains and repairs all simulation equipment, including patient simulators and medical equipment.
  • Troubleshoots equipment malfunctions and contacts vendors as needed.
  • Promotes and encourages staff across the institution.
  • Adheres to all TTUHSCEP policies and procedures.
