A Silversmith will form and fabricate silver trophy, statement and retail pieces based on technical drawings, specifications and/or SOPs. Silversmiths participate in training, documentation, and R&D of new items. This position focuses on safety, accuracy and quality during fabrication, development of new products and working as a team where needed to complete department goals.

  • Always work safely by consistently following safe work procedures for your position, as well as all safety procedures required at your worksite. Promptly report all incidents and safety issues to your supervisor.
  • Interpret blueprints and fabricate items based on designs and tolerances set forth in production artwork to meet company QA standards within prescribed timelines.
  • Focus on detail, in process QA and limiting inventory failure while working on a wide size range of products where complex fitting, machining, and soldering is required.
  • Utilize multiple torch sizes and types from gas flux pin torches to large scale soldering and annealing torches.
  • Work in a concise and organized fashion while helping the department to meet production goals.
  • Apply correct sequences of silver solder from high temp 800 to lower temp 560 to the lowest temp tin/silver solder.
  • Perform all levels of solder cleanup and over-run prevention using solder stop out, files, burs, sanding belts and scotch stones.
  • Fit cast, die struck, machined, spun and hand fabricated components.
  • Comprehend annealing temperatures of gold, sterling silver, brass, bronze, copper, and ferrous metals.
  • Hand form spouts, handles and other hollow components with the use of the hydraulic press, wooden dies, hammers, and stakes.
  • Hand hallmark a wide variety of items and utilize aluminum and steel hammers to raise and planish during fabrication and repair.
  • Minimize porosity in solder seams and castings with the use of laser weld and appropriate filler wire, rotary planisher, Swiss hammer and steel planishing hammers.
  • Possess a working knowledge of hand forging of steel punches, chasing tools, snaring irons and stakes.
  • Use chasing tools, punches and engravers during complex fabrication practices.
  • Utilize the drill press and flex shaft to drill, tap and thread components in order to mechanically fixture complex items.
  • Set up and operate power equipment including the draw bench, jump shears, band saw, disc and belt sander, power press, kick press, spinning lathe, machining lathe and any other tools essential to the job.
  • Focus on the documentation and organization of work instructions, drawings, notes, capturing in-process images and assisting in the writing of SOPs for new and existing products.
  • Participate in quoting, R&D, manufacturing/design reviews and product signoffs of new product.
  • Work closely with the new product team and process engineering team by sharing correct routing steps and times for new and existing products.
  • Provide management with consistent progress updates and estimated completion schedules.
  • Collaborate with internal and external teams on new and existing process improvements and quoting of repairs on historic items.
  • Maintain the production schedule and be willing to help when other silversmithing schedules become delayed.
  • Maintain a professional, positive, and respectful work environment while complying with Company policies and procedures.
  • Participate and carry out team tasks by helping co-workers with questions as well as your teammates who may be challenged with a given task.
  • Assist in the mentoring of apprentices and onboarding silversmiths.
  • Demonstrate competencies as needed in Hollowware for tours and filming as needed.
  • Perform other activities as directed.
  • Experience in silversmithing or a related field.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
  • Knowledge of soldering techniques and materials.
  • Familiarity with various tools and equipment used in silversmithing.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality assurance practices.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Good communication skills for providing updates and collaborating with teams.
  • Experience with R&D and product development.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience mentoring or training apprentices.
