The Silks Attendant is responsible for checking-in and checking-out racing silks along with their helmet cover in the Jockeys’ Room at Horseshoe Indianapolis: Makes necessary changes in the racing system when racing silks change. Responsible for managing the incoming and outgoing silks for racing participants. Cataloging and distributing the appropriate silks to each Valet for their Jockeys prior to a race and cataloging and receiving the appropriate silks after a race. Need a very good general understanding of racing ownerships, trainers, and jockeys as well as the skills to follow regulatory procedures. Picks up racing silks that were received by the Racing Officials in the Racing Office. The following is a list of items required to perform the job duties of this position: Must be able to obtain and maintain an Indiana Horse Racing Commission license. Ability to work under pressure. Verbal and written comprehension. Extremely well organized Ability to manage multiple complicated priorities/tasks. Regularly required to sit, stand, climb, walk, bend, and lift objects up to 50 pounds. Familiar with racing terminology and customs. An ability to work well with others including but not limited to the trainers, assistant trainers, Clerk of Scales, Jockeys’ Room Custodian, Valets, Racing Officials, and Stewards. Horseshoe Indianapolis is a smoking establishment, therefore must be able to work in a smoking environment. Must be able to work in a highly populated, fast-paced, and noisy environment. Must be able to work in an environment subject to cold and/or hot temperatures, rain, wind, sun, dust, animals, insects, etc.
