About The Position

IDOT is seeking to hire a Silk Screen operator to perform a variety of tasks related to the application of highway sign, messages directly or by silk screen process.

Requirements

  • Requires one year of sign shop experience.
  • Requires completion of a background check and self-disclosure of criminal history.
  • This position is considered medium work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(c)). Medium work involves lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Requires ability to perform arduous labor.
  • Requires the ability to understand and carry out oral/written instructions.
  • Requires the ability to maintain productive working relationships.
  • Requires a valid driver’s license.
  • Requires successful completion of a pre-employment physical and drug and alcohol testing and random drug and alcohol testing.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefer working knowledge of stencil positioning on signs.
  • Prefer working knowledge of the use of computers with the ability to create drawings that include texts.

Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of tasks related to the application of highway sign messages directly or by the silk screen process.
  • Operates sophisticated computerized sign design system.
  • Operates highway striping machines, air compressors and other equipment used in the daily tasks for striping and signing operations.
  • Maintains a complete Illinois Sign Standards master file.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of those enumerated above.
