Step into the cutting-edge world of silicon photonics with Ciena as a Silicon Photonics Design Engineer. In this role, you’ll be part of a team pushing the boundaries of optical technologies, developing innovative solutions for next-generation high-speed optical networks. You’ll leverage your expertise to design, simulate, and validate photonic devices, contributing to Ciena’s leadership in optical communication technologies.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Photonics, Optics, or a related discipline, or M.Sc. with proven work experience in silicon photonics.
  • Solid knowledge of photonic integrated circuit design, including active and passive components.
  • Proficiency in simulation tools for optical, optoelectronic, or RF applications.
  • Hands-on experience with semiconductor fabrication processes and characterization techniques for photonic devices.
  • 5+ years of experience in photonic device design and validation.
  • Familiarity with DC and RF test methods for photonic components.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with design and optimization of high speed silicon modulatos.
  • Knowledge of III-V material systems, TFLN, BTO and their applications in photonics.
  • Experience with statistical analysis and data interpretation for yield improvement.
  • Familiarity with photonic device testing and automation tools.
  • Strong programming skills in Python for simulation and data analysis.
  • Ability to collaborate with academic and industry partners on advanced photonic technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Design and optimize photonic integrated circuits, focusing on performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
  • Conduct advanced simulations of modulator devices using specialized software tools.
  • Analyze and interpret experimental results, correlating them with theoretical models and simulations.
  • Collaborate with wafer fabrication partners to ensure design feasibility and production readiness.
  • Develop and implement test plans for both active and passive photonic devices, including DC and RF testing methods.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to integrate modulator designs into broader photonic systems and prototypes.
  • Document and communicate design decisions, test data, and advancements to stakeholders.
