About The Position

The purpose of this position is to maintain City streets by overseeing necessary street markings, traffic signal and road conditions. This is accomplished by using construction and installation skills and equipment. Other duties may include street sign construction and installation, traffic signal maintenance and repair, assisting in traffic engineering studies, equipment maintenance, necessary paperwork and interfacing with other City employees and citizens. Ability to maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment. This position does not provide direction to other employees.

Requirements

  • Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes. Level of knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency.
  • Less than one year of related experience required.
  • Valid Texas Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required within 6 months of hire (must pass written tests within two months of hire)
  • IMSA Work Zone, IMSA Signs and Marking, IMSA Signal Tech I required within 2 years.

Responsibilities

  • Fabricates signs by operating sign machines, peeling and applying materials to sign blanks, preparing and cleaning sign blanks and designing and inputting information into sign machines.
  • Installs signs by ensuring the correct height of signage to meet standards, digging holes and mixing concrete for setting and leveling sign supports.
  • Provides premier customer service to internal and external customers by responding to requests in a timely and professional manner.
  • Maintains lights by checking voltage and resistance, changing flashers, batteries, lens and lens covers and programming school zone times and school days into control panels.
  • Assists with engineering traffic studies and counts by installing traffic counters in high volume and low volume roadways, drilling and setting rubber covers into the existing pavement, removing counters after survey is completed, inputting and downloading information into computer and printing reports.
  • Observes public safety for standards by overseeing and inspecting current signage and pavement markings to meet or exceed standards within the city.
  • Prepares paperwork by writing out tasks, amount of materials used and locations for jobs.
  • Regular attendance required.
  • Ability to maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
