Under the direction of the assigned supervisor, maintain all traffic control devices and other electric/electronic controls and devices. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED, plus one (1) year technical school training in the field of electronics and an additional six (6) months of training in electrical circuitry and wiring.
  • Requires three (3) years of directly related work experience.
  • Working knowledge of electrical circuitry, electronics schematics and electronic logic diagrams.
  • Skilled in the use and care of equipment related to this positions, i.e., test meters, hand and power tools, and aerial lift trucks.
  • Skilled in working with high voltage and amperage electrical systems such as 440 voltage systems.
  • Ability to read written instructions and prepare written reports.
  • Ability to read and understand contract plans and specifications.
  • Ability to understand the hazards relevant to the work required by this position.
  • Ability to work alone on electric circuits and electronic systems as allowed by Electrical Code and OSHA regulations.
  • Employee must successfully complete the post-offer employment medical examination and background investigation.
  • This position is safety sensitive.
  • Employment is subject to a pre-employment and random drug testing in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state rules and regulations regarding alcohol and/or drug testing.
  • Employee must comply with the safety guidelines of the County.
  • Employee must complete required FEMA training(s) as assigned to position.
  • Employee must complete required Supervisor classes if applicable.
  • Employee must possess an EJ98 (Electrical Journeyman) certificate of competence from the State of New Mexico.
  • Employee must possess a valid NM driver’s license by employment date and retain NM driver’s license while employed in this position.
  • Employee must attend Traffic Control Training Courses conducted by the NM State Highway Department and other courses that may be scheduled by supervisor.
  • Position requires working overtime as assigned during non-scheduled work hours.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect signal and other electric/electronic installation by private contractors.
  • Direct and coordinate the jobs of the Signal Technician Assistant and Signal Technician Helper.
  • Maintain inventory of replacement components, parts and supplies.
  • Maintain contact with the NM State Highway Department and law enforcement agencies.
  • Prepare monthly reports.
  • Maintain automatic solid state traffic controllers and flashers and computer controlled telephone activated systems, such as the Black Mesa Pumping Station.
  • Inspect tests and repair electric signals and equipment as assigned.
  • Wire and construct new electronic traffic control devices.
  • Replace defective equipment and install new equipment.
  • Clean, lubricate and adjust automatic signal systems as assigned.
  • Perform warrant studies for new lights and may be required to maintain equipment records including an inventory of both signals and luminaries.
