Luna Innovations is the global leader in fiber optic sensing focused on solving some of the world’s most complex measurement challenges across multiple industries. We are looking for a Signal Processing Engineer to join our team based in Missoula, MT. This position emphasizes signal processing (primarily focused on acoustic data), strong mechanical aptitude, and an interest in hands-on, practical work. While programming experience is highly valued, we welcome candidates who are new to computer programming but eager to learn and grow in this area.

  • Assisting in development of Silixa’s FiberWrap flow metering application with an emphasis on data processing and system integration, including theoretical, hardware, and software components.
  • Applying signal processing techniques to data acoustic data obtained from Silixa’s industry-leading iDASTM and Carina® distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) systems.
  • Contributing to the ongoing development of Silixa products offered in the market areas of alternative energy (e.g., carbon, capture, utilization and storage; geothermal), oil/gas, and defense.
  • Participating in hands-on experimental work, including system setup, fiber installation, and equipment troubleshooting.
  • Collaborating with team members to support data processing, hardware configuration, and technical proposal development.
  • Learning and adhering to health, safety, and environmental (HSE) practices while actively promoting safe work practices.
  • BS in engineering, computer science, applied mathematics, physics, or related fields with a focus on signal processing, data analysis, or mechanical systems.
  • Preferred MS (or equivalent) in engineering, computer science, applied mathematics, physics, or related disciplines with expertise in signal processing or system modeling.
  • Basic understanding of acoustic data processing or distributed sensing systems.
  • Familiarity with Python or other programming tools (e.g., MATLAB, C).
  • Demonstrable problem solving and analysis ability (examples and/or portfolio encouraged!).
  • Fluent in English.
  • Work with colleagues across all business functions both internally and with clients (commercial, production, operations, support, R&D).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create detailed technical reports and presentations.
  • Strong collaboration skills, capable of working with cross-functional teams and clients across technical and commercial domains.
  • A hands-on, practical approach to problem-solving, with a willingness to 'get your hands dirty' as needed.
  • Commitment to occasional travel for on-site experiments and client interactions.
