About The Position

Works under the general direction of the Traffic Engineering Administrator. Supervises workers engaged in maintaining and constructing traffic signals and flashers. Ensures work is performed in compliance with engineering plans and city specifications. Manages personnel providing training, work direction, assignment of duties and disciplinary actions. Oversees the inspection and acceptance of all City and TDOT managed Traffic Signal and School Flasher Construction projects within the City. Assists with special projects with the state and county governments with Traffic Signals and School Flashers. Instructs crew on the type of equipment and materials to use to obtain desired results. Prepares service center budget and maintains inventory of signal parts and supplies. Ensures that Technical Staff receives the necessary training and IMSA certifications to perform Traffic Signal Maintenance and Construction work. Investigates and resolves citizen complaints and requests and notifies supervisors of findings and action taken. Conducts preliminary planning and layout for Traffic Signals. Works with various contractors, engineers, consultants and the general public daily to complete various task. Supervises the installation of new signalized intersections and other traffic control devices. Develops a continuing training program for employees with specific job-related training to provide opportunities for staff flexibility and development. Records daily operation activities and prepares reports. Implements Safety Standards within the Traffic Signal Maintenance and Construction Department. Inspects equipment and prepares work orders for maintenance required. Monitors inventory and authorizes purchase of materials and supplies. Inspects equipment and worksites by driving to various locations. Assists in performing tasks of subordinates when necessary. Evaluates plans, specifications, and equipment submittal data for all Traffic Signal Projects. Provides input to Traffic Engineering staff on recommended modifications to Traffic Signal Standards. Researches current trends in technology, operational plans, and maintenance related to Traffic Signals and provides input to Traffic Engineering.
