About The Position
The Signal Helper position at SIRTOA is a progressively responsible role within the Subways department of the Staten Island Railway. The selected incumbent will serve as a Signal Helper for a period of one year, during which they will be training for the position of Assistant Signal Maintainer. This role requires passing various examinations related to the craft, including Roadway Workers Protection (RWP) and the Book of Rules. Failure to pass any examination may result in termination. After one year of service and successful completion of the required examinations, the incumbent will progress to the title of Assistant Signal Maintainer 1st year, serving in that capacity for two years before advancing to the Signal Maintainer title. Transfers to other departments are not permitted during this training period.
