Provides skilled Sign Language interpreting services to the Deaf Community in a religious setting
Requirements
Extensive knowledge and/or coursework in the ASL language, religious signs, and the Deaf Communitys norms, values, culture, history and social experiences.
Previous experience of the Deaf population from interactions with them in a religious setting and or in the community.
The interpreter shall be born-again, and one who feels called by God to interpret the Gospel.
Maintain respectful open dialogue with other staff members.
Nice To Haves
A bachelors degree in any general education field.
Completion of an Interpreter Training program
Completion of Advanced ASL course work
Responsibilities
Provides skilled Sign Language interpreting services to the Deaf Community in a religious setting
Respond in a timely manner to scheduling requests.
Follow the Interpreter Ministry Guideline, which provides fundamental protocols and procedures
Prepare using written sources e.g. sermon notes, course curriculum, lyrics to music, in order to interpret accurately across cultures and into ASL.
