The Sign Language Interpreter at the University of Texas at Arlington is responsible for providing interpreting and transliterating services to ensure equal access for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students in academic settings. This role involves maintaining a schedule of interpreting services, assisting with coordination of assignments, and participating in outreach activities to promote communication access within the university community.

  • Provide interpreting/transliterating services for Deaf/Hard of Hearing students registered with the SAR Center.
  • Maintain a regular schedule of interpreting/transliterating services.
  • Accept regular or substitute interpreting assignments as necessary.
  • Assist the Deaf/Hard of Hearing Coordinator with scheduling and dispatching interpreter assignments.
  • Communicate effectively with staff and faculty to facilitate equal communication access.
  • Attend and participate in interpreter-related conferences, meetings, and training.
  • Participate in outreach activities related to Deaf/Hard of Hearing services.
  • Provide information and referrals to students requesting services and accommodations.
  • Certified Sign Language Interpreter certification.
  • Minimum of 2 years of general interpreting experience.
  • Understanding of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Rehabilitation Act (504).
  • College degree or graduation from an Interpreter Training Program.
  • Two years of continuous post-secondary interpreter experience.
