About The Position

Facilitates effective and clear communication between hearing and deaf/hard of hearing patients their families and Health System staff. Conducts medical and general interpreting and/or transliterating for deaf or hard of hearing staff patients and their families. Performs a variety of administrative tasks training and education within the Health System. In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned. Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent required.
  • Completion of accredited interpreter training program required.
  • Virginia Department for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing VQAS performance assessment Level III (medical interpreter) or higher or similar certification from another state.
  • Job requires frequently traveling (distance: 1 mile).
  • Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills
  • Attention to detail and ability to write legibly.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.
