This Side-Loader Operator role is essential to the daily operations of the terminal and is responsible for the daily operation of the overhead or side loader crane, while loading and unloading containers and trailers to railcars. This will include locking and unlocking container chassis, trailer hitches, IBCs, and bolsters in a safe and efficient manner.

Requirements

  • Must have prior verifiable gantry crane operator experience.
  • Side-Loader Experience is required.
  • Ability to complete and pass a basic skills assessment test prior to employment.
  • Possess a valid Driver's License.
  • 18 years of age or older.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to pass a 7-year background check and receive an Erail Badge.
  • Ability to pass a drug test and a Physical.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.

Nice To Haves

  • 1 year of Sideloader experience (Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the daily operation of the overhead or side loader crane, while loading and unloading containers and trailers to railcars.
  • Locking and unlocking container chassis, trailer hitches, IBCs, and bolsters.
  • Perform daily pre-inspection to verify the conditions of the tires, oil levels/leaks, hydraulics, lights, flashers, radio, damage, and camera.
  • Ensure safety equipment is operating properly, including the location and condition of fire extinguisher.
  • Be aware of your surroundings when operating loading equipment to ensure all processes are followed to maintain a safe and injury-free work environment.
  • Read, understand and work with service directives and technical instructions.
  • Be accountable for meeting proficiency, safety, and quality requirements.
  • Verify container, chassis, and trailer numbers accurately.
  • Ensure clear communication is met with the Ground Persona and/or other personnel.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
