About The Position

The Supplemental Instruction (SI) Coordinator will assist the Shell Tutorial Center (STC) Academic Support Program Manager in the overall operation of the academic support unit which provides course support for students through the LSU Center for Academic Success, a nationally certified Learning Center of Excellence. This position is charged with the administration and oversight the Supplemental Instruction program, a peer-learning program that provides regularly scheduled study sessions for historically difficult courses. The SI Coordinator is required to stay current with best practices in academic support operations, facilitation techniques, and program accreditation for SI program with the International Center for Supplemental Instruction.

Requirements

  • Experience in supervising student employees within higher education setting.
  • Experience in providing services to students in an education setting and/or within university learning centers or academic support (tutoring, Supplemental Instruction).
  • Degree in a STEM discipline.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Program Manager with the recruitment, hiring, and training of undergraduate SI Leaders to ensure high-quality peer academic support.
  • Supervise approximately 60 SI Leaders, providing ongoing guidance, mentorship, and accountability to foster student employee development and program effectiveness.
  • Develop and deliver comprehensive training materials for onboarding new SI Leaders as well as refresher training for returning leaders to maintain consistent standards of practice.
  • Oversee the scheduling and coordination of SI sessions and locations to maximize accessibility and student participation.
  • Organize and maintain accurate SI student employee schedules to support efficient program operations.
  • Approve payroll and leave requests for SI Leaders in compliance with university policies and timelines.
  • Interpret and communicate departmental policies and procedures to ensure consistency and clarity within the SI program.
  • Support the Program Manager in supervising undergraduate academic support staff within the Shell Tutorial Center, contributing to the overall success of tutoring and Supplemental Instruction services.
  • Coordinate with the Tutor Coordinator to plan and execute academic support events such as the CAS Academic Kickoff and Shell Blitz Day, promoting visibility and engagement with students and faculty.
  • Maintain up-to-date SI staff contact information and availability to ensure effective communication and scheduling.
  • Update and manage training handbooks, resources, and program materials to support the ongoing development and consistency of the SI program.
  • Monitor SI Leaders’ progress by conducting observations of SI sessions and providing feedback to enhance instructional quality and student learning outcomes.
  • Assist the STC Program Manager and CAS Director in developing and writing funding proposals for SI services to support program growth and sustainability.
  • Conduct outreach initiatives to promote awareness and engagement with peer-led learning services across campus.
  • Lead the planning and implementation of the annual SI Leader Awards selection process to recognize outstanding student contributions.
  • Represent the program by attending and presenting at relevant professional conferences, sharing best practices and program outcomes.
  • Contribute to the success of the Center for Academic Success by actively participating in departmental activities, special assignments, and committee work.
  • Collect, enter, and analyze usage data on SI services, including attendance, student feedback, and SI Leader performance, to inform program evaluation and improvement.
  • Utilize and maintain proficiency in software programs designed for tracking and reporting program data.
  • Assess the SI program to identify best practices and provide recommendations to the STC Program Manager for enhancing services and outcomes.
  • Lead the preparation and submission of SI accreditation documentation to ensure compliance with professional standards.
  • Participate in departmental and university-level strategic planning, assessment, and evaluation activities to align the academic support program with institutional goals.
