About The Position

The Shuttle Driver supports the guest experience by safely operating Zoo transportation vehicles, including the Heart of Africa Shuttle and Parking Lot Tram. This role also assists with Lighthouse Theater presentations, delivers exceptional guest service, and ensures a safe, welcoming environment for all Zoo guests. Shuttle Drivers are key ambassadors of the Zoo’s mission, providing memorable interactions while maintaining the highest standards of safety, attentiveness, and professionalism.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must possess or be willing to obtain a valid driver’s license by date of hire.
  • Must pass all applicable certification tests.
  • Excellent verbal communication and strong attention to detail.
  • Basic computer/tablet knowledge and skills.
  • Ability to maintain courteous and helpful behavior.
  • Ability to work in varied weather conditions (extreme heat, rain, etc.).
  • Ability to maintain appropriate employee appearance.
  • Must be able to work flexible schedules, including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Ability to work with diverse guest and team member populations of all ages and backgrounds.
  • Subject to Drug Free Workplace Policy, criminal background check, and BMV check.

Responsibilities

  • Provide an inviting, friendly, and engaging experience for all guests.
  • Answer questions about shuttle operations, park policies, and attractions.
  • Deliver clear and thorough safety instructions to large groups.
  • Assist guests during boarding and unloading, including children and guests with disabilities.
  • Safely operate transportation vehicles following all standard operating procedures.
  • Remain attentive and alert at all times to react effectively to different situations.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of attraction and vehicle areas.
  • Assist with queueing, guest service, and enforcing theater policies at animal training presentations.
  • Engage with guests and answer questions about policies and presentations.
  • Work with animal keepers and presentation staff as needed.
  • Work independently or as part of a team at various locations.
  • Participate in training at other ride locations when opportunities arise.
  • Adapt to schedule changes based on weather, attendance, or operational needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the Rides and Attractions team, including assisting coworkers, responding to operational changes, and completing time‑sensitive tasks.
