About The Position

Circuit of The Americas (COTA) is a 365-entertainment destination for world-class events in Austin, TX. The sports and entertainment portfolio at COTA is unmatched nationwide, with the Formula 1 US Grand Prix, NASCAR, and MotoGP attracting global fans during championship races on the famed Circuit. Live Nation produces over 30 headline concerts every year at the Germania Insurance Amphitheater. Opening this year, COTALAND is an amusement park situated alongside the Racetrack, featuring two first-of-their-kind roller coasters and over three dozen rides. The Seasonal Part-Time Shuttle Driver & Spotter plays a key role in delivering safe, efficient, and welcoming transportation experience for guests, staff, and performers during events at Circuit of The Americas. Shuttle Drivers & Spotters are responsible for operating buses or shuttle vehicles on designated routes, assisting passengers, and ensuring timely and courteous service during high-volume events including Formula 1, NASCAR, MotoGP, concerts, and festivals. This position is event-based and ideal for individuals who enjoy working in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.

Requirements

  • Safely transport guests, staff, vendors, and performers to and from predetermined locations including parking areas, entrances, shuttle stops, and event venues.
  • Operate shuttle vehicles on COTA property and designated routes while adhering to established schedules.
  • Provide friendly, professional, and courteous customer service to all passengers.
  • Answer guest questions clearly and politely, providing directions and general event information when needed.
  • Assist passengers with boarding and exiting vehicles, including providing assistance to disabled or mobility-impaired passengers.
  • Be vigilant in ensuring safe passenger behavior (no standing on trailers, no boarding or exiting while trailer’s in motion, no arms or legs outside of the trailer) – Ability to communicate effectively with those not abiding by the rules, politely enforcing rules when needed.
  • Safely operate multiple types of vehicles, including shuttle buses, minibuses, passenger vans, and pickup trucks towing passenger trailers (including Featherlite trailers and safari trams).
  • Demonstrate proficiency in towing practices, including maneuvering, backing, braking, turning, and navigating crowded event environments.
  • Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections, ensure vehicle and trailer readiness, maintain cleanliness, and report mechanical or safety issues.
  • Obey all traffic laws, safety regulations, and COTA operational procedures.
  • Inspect and maintain required emergency equipment, supervise safe loading/unloading, and ensure compliance with passenger safety standards.
  • Communicate effectively with dispatch, supervisors, and event operations teams.
  • Clock in/out accurately, maintain records, and consistently represent COTA with professionalism, integrity, and accountability.
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to interact professionally with diverse audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to safely operate pickup trucks towing passenger trailers, including knowledge of safe towing practices.
  • Working knowledge of passenger safety standards, emergency procedures, and vehicle operation protocols.
  • Clear and effective verbal communication skills, including use of two-way radio systems.
  • Strong situational awareness and ability to remain calm under pressure in high-volume event settings.
  • Dependable, punctual, detail-oriented, and safety-conscious.
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing schedules, routes, and event demands.
  • Ability to read maps and navigate large venues efficiently.
  • Valid Texas driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Safe driving record verified by Texas Department of Public Safety (meets and maintains liability coverage eligibility)
  • Demonstrated ability or prior experience operating pickup trucks towing passenger trailers carrying passengers.
  • Ability to pass required background checks, motor vehicle record reviews, and drug/alcohol testing as required.
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and irregular hours based on event schedules.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods while operating a vehicle.
  • Ability to sit on a trailer for an extended period of time.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, twist, kneel, squat, and use hands and arms as required.
  • Ability to enter and exit vehicles repeatedly during shifts.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Close, distance, peripheral, and depth vision required.
  • Frequent exposure to extreme temperatures including heat, cold, rain, and sun.
  • Exposure to moderate to loud noise levels from crowds, vehicles, and event activities.
  • Work in high-traffic and crowded environments.
  • Operation of vehicles for prolonged periods, including shuttle buses, minibuses, vans, and trailers.
  • Use of hands and arms for steering, braking, gear shifting, radio operation, and safety equipment.
  • Repetitive bending, twisting, reaching, grasping, and lifting as needed during passenger boarding and vehicle maintenance.
  • Emotional and mental resilience required to remain calm under stressful, fast-paced, and dynamic event conditions.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience driving shuttles, buses, trailers, or similar vehicles preferred.
  • Experience working large-scale events or high-volume guest environments is a plus.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
