About The Position

General Purpose of Job: Supervise all daily activities of Patient Financial Services Billing, Patient Financial Counseling, and/or Clerical Caregivers. Plan, organize, and direct the activities of the billing to support the mission, vision, and values of Sparrow. Essential Duties: This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Caregivers may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position.

Requirements

  • None.
  • High school diploma/GED and minimum 5 years experience in billing; OR associate degree in business, accounting, or related field and minimum 3 years of experience in billing.
  • Demonstrated excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to plan, organize, educate, direct and lead subordinate staff.
  • Demonstrates ability to use a keyboard as may be required to perform the essential duties of the job.

Nice To Haves

  • UB04 claims experience/knowledge - preferred.
  • ICD-10 diagnosis coding experience - preferred.
  • Revenue cycle knowledge/experience - preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise all processes and personnel directly involved in billing, collection, and Patient Financial Counseling of accounts receivable, providing guidance and direction.
  • Evaluate and monitor job performance of subordinate Caregivers.
  • Assist in the development of plans and department goals and follow through on their implementation.
  • Monitor special billing and follow-up lists and functions to improve cash flow and decrease accounts receivable.
  • Review and monitor backlog and unbilled accounts.
  • Identify accounts receivable problems and propose corrective measures.
  • Maintain and update knowledge of third party billing and collection rules and regulations.
  • Monitor reports to insure Health System and PFS compliance initiatives are followed.
  • Maintains and promotes an atmosphere which supports and encourages high performance, teamwork and continual improvement.
