About The Position

Reporting into the Assistant General Manager, the Shredder Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of automobile shredder operations and maintenance. This role ensures the safe, reliable, and efficient performance of the shredder, ferrous downstream systems, and supporting infrastructure. The position maintains equal accountability for production performance, operational metrics, and maintenance reliability, while upholding AIM Recycling's commitment to safety, sustainability, and operational excellence.

Requirements

  • 5-7 years of experience in heavy industrial or manufacturing environments with responsibility for both production operations and maintenance.
  • Strong working knowledge of automobile shredders, metal processing equipment, and supporting systems.
  • Strong understanding of industrial operations and maintenance best practices.
  • Ability to manage performance metrics related to both production and equipment reliability.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
  • Effective organizational and time management skills in a high-volume industrial environment.
  • Hands-on leadership style with strong communication and team development skills.
  • Self-motivated and committed to AIM's values of safety, sustainability, and operational excellence.
  • Willingness to work flexible shifts.

Nice To Haves

  • College degree in Business, Management, Engineering, or related field.
  • Bilingual - English and Spanish.
  • Experience in the recycling and metal industry strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day shredder operations to ensure safe, consistent, and efficient production.
  • Monitor and manage production metrics including throughput, uptime, downtime, yield, and quality.
  • Coordinate material flow, staffing, and operating schedules to maintain stable and predictable operations.
  • Ensure shredder operations meet AIM's operational standards and environmental compliance requirements.
  • Lead and manage maintenance activities for metal shredders, downstream systems, conveyor systems, and related heavy-duty equipment.
  • Ensure equipment reliability through preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance practices.
  • Balance production demands and maintenance requirements to support overall system performance.
  • Diagnose and resolve operational, mechanical, and electrical issues affecting shredder performance and reliability.
  • Develop and execute action plans for repairs and equipment improvements.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems and components as required.
  • Fabricate and weld metal components as needed to support shredder and downstream equipment performance and longevity.
  • Direct and manage operational and maintenance teams, ensuring disciplined execution of daily responsibilities.
  • Train and mentor team members on equipment operation, maintenance procedures, and safety protocols.
  • Coordinate cross-functional efforts to ensure alignment between production, maintenance, and yard activities.
  • Assist with installation, commissioning, and modification of shredder components and systems.
  • Plan production schedules and maintenance activities to support consistent performance and minimize disruptions.
  • Use operational and maintenance data to identify inefficiencies, improve reliability, and enhance overall performance.
  • Conduct monthly inventory and maintain vendor relationships for timely procurement of parts and materials.
  • Enforce all health and safety regulations in accordance with state and federal laws and AIM standards.
  • Promote a strong safety culture across all shredder operations and maintenance activities.
  • Complete mandatory safety training and ensure team compliance.
  • Prepare and manage operational and maintenance budgets.
  • Track and report production results, downtime, repair costs, and key performance indicators.
  • Maintain accurate records including daily logs, error reports, and maintenance documentation.
  • Maintain yard cleanliness and organization in shredder operating areas.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned to support AIM's operational goals.
