About The Position

The Mechanical Engineer position at Walt Disney Imagineering involves the design and development of Audio-Animatronic figures and show action equipment. The role is crucial in ensuring the durability, reliability, and safety of these systems throughout their lifecycle, from concept development to installation and commissioning. The engineer will collaborate with various teams to deliver high-quality products and will be responsible for detailed design auditing, engineering of complex systems, and vendor management.

Requirements

  • 7 years of shown experience in design and integration of electric actuation systems
  • Ability to proactively address problems, adjust scope, and update management
  • Understanding of manufacturing and quality control processes
  • Knowledge of machine design, GD&T, and design for manufacturing processes (CNC machining, sheet metal, 3D printing, plastics, and mold design)
  • Experience with engineering design tools (SolidWorks, ANSYS, MATLAB)
  • Availability to travel both domestically and internationally as needed
  • Availability to work various shifts commensurate with global project requirements

  • Shock & vibe, environmental cycle testing of embedded systems
  • Robotic systems design experience
  • Experience bringing products to market requiring certifications by certifying bodies

Responsibilities

  • Detail design auditing and review of highly integrated electro-mechanical actuator designs and documentation
  • Perform and review the design and engineering of complex electro-mechanical systems
  • Complete Finite Element Analysis (FEA) of mechanical designs
  • Manage sub-system vendor/contractor management and oversight
  • Complete SolidWorks models, drawing development and release
  • Specify and manage testing efforts with internal and external parties
  • Manage certification efforts between design and production
  • Work with stakeholders and external parties to establish manufacturing plans
