About The Position

This is an nonexempt position. Short Notice position is an on-call role, and applicants must be prepared to report to work within one hour of receiving notification. EMTs respond to medical emergencies; provide patient care, support and evaluation in a pre¬ hospital setting, on scene and during transport to the hospital. This generally includes assessing the patient, determining the proper emergency care and administers treatment. Firefighter I performs explicit general duty firefighting, rescue, and responds to emergency calls to protect life and property. Participates in fire prevention activities that include, but are not limited to, and public safety education, emergency medical services and education programs such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two years experience and/ or post-secondary education in Fire Science
  • Specialized training in the operation of heavy equipment such as fire trucks or ladder trucks
  • EMT certification at the time of hire
  • Basic knowledge of the principles of specialized equipment mechanics and skill at equipment operation
  • Knowledge of methods and techniques for providing on-site emergency medical services
  • Knowledge of and skill at using hand held communications devices
  • Sufficient knowledge of the English language to read and comprehend fire suppression and prevention, building safety, equipment operation and basic medical materials and information
  • Sufficient math skills to record distances and measurements
  • Sufficient human relations skills to convey information to a variety of individuals and groups inside the department and in the community
  • Knowledge of company protocols , operational procedures, and safety policies
  • Ability to serve as Incident Commander throughout the incident or until relieved by a higher officer
  • Ability to learn various and numerous fire suppression and fire prevention methods, procedures, and techniques including the operation of firefighting equipment
  • Ability to learn and recall the street system pattern and physical design of the communities and service areas as well as building characteristics
  • Ability to learn and respond to emergency situations, when not directly supervised and to act quickly and calmly in emergency situations
  • Ability to maintain detailed routine records
  • Ability to complete all required courses of study and continuing education
  • Ability to learn and operate the fire suppression, rescue and emergency medical equipment used by the department
  • Valid Washington State driver’s license and be eligible for the Tribes’ Vehicle Insurance
