HERFF JONES, CDL Driver – Arcola, IL (Indianapolis, IN) Your Opportunity: We are seeking a CDL Driver to join our team as part of a Short Haul, Not-For-Hire carrier operation. This role involves transporting materials between designated sites while ensuring compliance with DOT regulations and company safety standards. Our fleet operates under 26,000 lbs. GVWR, exempting us from certain requirements, but strict adherence to safety audit standards is essential. Here's How You’ll Make an Impact: Reporting to the warehouse supervisor, you will be responsible for the loading, offloading and transportation of goods between our distribution centers in Illinois in Indiana.

Requirements

  • Valid CDL license with clean driving record.
  • Ability to comply with DOT regulations and company safety standards.
  • Strong attention to detail for documentation and inspections.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
  • Frequent sitting, driving, and occasional loading/unloading.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous short-haul or local delivery experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Safely transport goods between distribution centers across state lines in full compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Ensure accuracy of documentation, including packing lists and pallet manifests, to maintain seamless inventory control.
  • Communicate effectively with team members across multiple sites to guarantee timely and efficient deliveries.
  • Maintain meticulous records as required by DOT and company standards, supporting audits and operational transparency.
  • Support other warehouse operations as needed, including loading and unloading shipments, consolidating and staging pallets, and performing cycle counts
  • Safely operate company vehicles for short-haul deliveries between Illinois and Indiana.
  • Complete and maintain Driver Qualification file per DOT Regulation 49 CFR 391.
  • Maintain accurate driver logs (electronic logs not required).
  • Perform and sign off on daily vehicle inspections.
  • Provide proof of insurance and other documentation during audits.
  • Ensure compliance with all DOT and company safety requirements, including:
  • Enrollment in Drug and Alcohol Testing Consortium (if operating CDL-required vehicle).
  • Maintain valid Driver Medical DOT Card (renew every 2 years).
  • Ensure USDOT #, MC#, and company name are displayed on both sides of the vehicle.
  • Carry required in-vehicle safety equipment:
  • Mounted 5 lb. fire extinguisher
  • 3 reflective cones or triangles
  • Extra assorted fuses
  • First aid kit
