SUMMARY: This position is responsible for dismounting, mounting and balancing of all tires sold. Other duties include handling scrap or take off tires placing them neatly in storage area and many miscellaneous duties that you may be asked to do DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Prepares tires for installation; mounts and demounts tires on rims; and fills tires to the proper air pressure. Inspects and tests tires to ensure conformance to standards. Examines and probes damaged, defective, or flat tires to determine the extent of damage and the feasibility of repair; and recommends the disposal of non-repairable tires. Repairs tube and tubeless tires by puncturing blisters, applying patches, replacing treads, removing nails, changing tubes, installing boots, etc. Buff defective areas of inner tubes, using scrapers. Separate tubed tires from wheels, using rubber mallets and metal bars or mechanical tire changers. Unbolt and remove wheels from vehicles, using lug wrenches or other hand or power tools. Road tests vehicles after repairs are completed. Balances wheels and tire assemblies to minimize wear on tires; and rotates wheels at prescribed mileage intervals. Performs preventative maintenance checks on school division vehicle tires and related components. Operates and maintains diagnostic equipment, hand/power tools, tire changing machines, balancing equipment, and other specialized automotive tools and machinery. Practices safety methods in the operation of equipment and performance of duties. Clean equipment, parts, or tools to repair or maintain them in good working order. Inventories and ensures an adequate supply of tires and related parts; and requisitions/orders supplies as necessary. Clean and tidy up the shop. Clean work areas. Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
