About The Position

We’re looking for a hands-on 2nd Shift Supervisor who thrives in autonomy, leads from the shop floor, and has strong CNC machining experience—especially in 5-axis environments. You’ll guide a tight-knit team capable of owning full part production, unblocking bottlenecks, and keeping product flowing through the plant. Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in CNC lathe/mill machining , with strong preference for proven experience on 5-axis machines
  • Prior supervisory, lead, or team-lead experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to independently troubleshoot and document CNC machining issues without immediate engineering or day-shift support.
  • Solid understanding of G & M code, feeds/speeds, tooling, and geometric tolerancing.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, work instructions, and technical drawings.
  • Strong leadership presence with the ability to motivate, coach, and hold team members accountable.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to give direction clearly and professionally.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain calm, productive operations in an “on an island” shift environment.
  • High shop-floor presence (approx. 2/3 of the shift) with a hands-on leadership approach.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple competing tasks.
  • Detail-oriented mindset with a focus on quality, precision, and follow-through.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); experience with ERP/MRP systems preferred.
  • Solid math skills and ability to complete documentation with accuracy.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a highly cross-trained second-shift “seal team” capable of taking an order from raw material to finished part.
  • Assign work based on bottlenecks, capacity constraints, and customer priorities to keep product flowing.
  • Provide hands-on leadership, coaching, and daily guidance to ensure team performance, safety, and quality.
  • Conduct performance reviews, corrective actions, and employee development plans.
  • Manage day-to-day operations of the department, ensuring efficient workflow, adherence to safety protocols, and compliance with time-keeping and performance management procedures
  • Act as the technical lead for the second shift, providing support for CNC mill-turn setups.
  • Assist operators with machine setups, offsets, tool changes, and basic program edits as required.
  • Prioritize and oversee operations on CNC lathes, 3-axis mill and 5-axis CNC multi-axis machines (preferably DMG Mori, Brother, Doosan).
  • Manage and expedite work orders through the department to meet daily production and shipping goals.
  • Monitor part flow, identify bottlenecks, track scrap and rework, and optimize machine utilization in real time.
  • Coordinate with day-shift leads and managers for smooth handoffs and operational continuity.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, record scrap transactions, and ensure compliance with travelers, prints, and specifications.
  • Serve as the primary decision-maker on second shift, resolving technical, personnel, and production issues with minimal support.
  • Quickly troubleshoot machining, quality, and scheduling challenges to reduce downtime.
  • Analyze recurring problems and communicate improvement opportunities to management.
  • Promote a culture of safety, enforcing PPE, housekeeping, and safe machining practices.
  • Hold the team accountable to quality standards, dimensional accuracy, and documentation requirements.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts including workflow optimization, tooling improvements, and reduction of setup times.
  • Participate in root cause investigations for safety or quality incidents.
